The Importance of Quality

Quality First
“The Inconvenience of Poor Quality Lingers Long After the Thrill of a Bargain is Forgotten.”

This proverb was posted in my son’s optician’s office, and was found by the owner on a matchbox twenty years ago.

As I was admiring this brilliant adage, I was also realizing that it can be applied to any kind of business, including Internet Marketing.

Sure, when it comes to eye glasses the importance is obvious – there’s a huge difference between the $9.99 glasses you get at the drugstore and the ones you get at a good optician – they fall off your nose, hurt behind your ears, make your eyes squint, and so on. But there are all sorts of other “inconveniences” that one can encounter.

For example, I was looking for a digital delivery plugin for my products and after Googling for a while could not find what I was looking for. A few days later I came across a product called “Digital Product Demon” that only cost $17 and came with MRR (Master Resell Rights”). “Wow”, I was thinking, “what a find!”

Unfortunately, I let it sit around for about two and a half months (the holidays, you know…) until I got around to installing it. I say “unfortunately” because I couldn’t get it to work and at that point I couldn’t get my money back. I Googled the product and found many references to this poor quality product that nobody was able to get any use out of. Yet, many people were selling it left and right, with or without the knowledge that this product never actually worked.

So let’s see: I bought a product that didn’t work as advertised, I couldn’t get my money back, I wasted time and energy trying to get it to work and Googling for a solution, and got back to square one. Would you say I was “Inconvenienced”?

So here’s what I think:

1. This does not mean that you can’t find good quality products that are inexpensive and also come with MRR.

2. If you buy a product, make sure you try it right away so you can still get your money back if it doesn’t work (use Paypal if you can – if you have to ask for your money back it’s easier and simpler than doing a charge back on a credit card).

3. If you’re an Internet Marketer (or any other marketer for that matter) and you promote poor quality products, your “inconvenienced” customers will make sure they don’t buy from you ever again.

4. It’ll cost you more than just a sale or two, it’s your reputation that’s on the line. And bad reputation is really bad for business.
